Pigeons have a bad reputation. But those who have had them as pets, rescued and rehabilitated them will tell you they are as loving as any other animal. They are known to be loyal, mate for life, and highly social. They bathe as often as they can, if you see a dirty bird it is because city life and pollution are to blame. They take most of their time grooming, sunbathing, or foraging to support their high flying metabolism. It's tragic to see people still abusing any animal, they cannot speak our language but their signs of suffering are no different than ours. As Gandhi once stated, " The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it's animals are treated". This is because those who extend compassion to those who are helpless, naturally will be compassionate to all. Those who see them as pests for carrying on life have put out inhumane traps and poisons. Many are suffering from neurological pain, unable to fly, lose a leg from glue traps, or used for hunting. If they are overpopulated, look at how much city litter and food are thrown onto the pavement everywhere. It's time to find humane methods of detering them from property. Killing any living creature is not the way.
