Coney Island Ferry Service

The Issue

Coney Island is most famously known as an entertainment destination that caters to millions of people each year. Coney Island is also a unique neighborhood that is home to over twenty-thousand residents and it's residential population is rapidly growing. Subway commutes between Lower Manhattan & Coney Island take over an hour and fifteen-minutes without delays. A scenic ferry ride from Coney Island Creek to Lower Manhattan would cut the commute time to just 29 minutes!

A potential Coney Island Creek landing provides the following:

  • Easy year-round access for area residents.
  • A short three-block walk to the amusement district.
  • Safe boarding and disembarking of passengers.
  • Low ferry landing construction cost.
  • Nudges visitors to explore outside the amusement district.
  • Method of evacuation in case of emergency.

Across the the City of New York many neighborhoods are already part of the Citywide Ferry Network. The various routes all have the same fare price as a ride on the Subway, $2.75. This petition has three parts. The first, to prove to the City of New York that a major demand for Coney Island Ferry service currently exists. The second, the formation of a Coney Island route to be incorporated under Citywide Ferry. Lastly, a ferry landing to be built along the Coney Island Creek.

I urge you to sign this petition if you care about Coney Island. I extend a true heartfelt thank you for using your valuable time to read this petition.
