Insist that co located charter schools should pay rent or leave

The Issue

Since the Bloomberg administration started, Charter schools run by corporate investors have been living rent free in public school buildings. Charters take away resources from public schools, which leads to severe inequity in the public schools. Charters can choose to exclude/kick out English Language Learners and Special Education Populations and fleece the public schools of students who do well in state testing. Charters have enough money to do smear campaigns on major radio and television stations, but are insisting that they should not have to pay rent taking up space in the city's public schools or find their own building space. Charters claim to be public when it is convenient for them to do so, but at the same time claim to be private when it suits their needs. Charter schools MUST be held accountable for their effect on NYC public schools.
