More than 30,000 homeless, stray, abandoned and injured animals come through the NYC's Animal Care Centers (ACC) every year. And a first rate city like NYC deserves a first rate animal shelter system with enough staff to care for all the animals. With so many animals coming into the shelters, ACC must be properly funded. Mayor de Blasio promised to give ACC more funding -- and while this year's budget is a small increase, it is not nearly enough. More funding is critical to cover the cost to hire more medical staff, animal enrichment staff, adoption staff, and shelter van drivers - critical resource in helping animals leave the shelter to rescues and to emergency care
Mr. Mayor, we know that you care deeply about animals.  But the city’s cats and dogs are in need now and I hope you will raise ACC’s budget – an act that will help literally thousands of animals immediately.
