Int’l Dairy Foods Assn CEO: Leave Milk Labeling to the Marketplace

At a House Agriculture Committee hearing, the CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) weighed in on the Dairy Pride Act, a bill that would prohibit the use of words like “milk” or “cheese” on dairy-free products. IDFA represents 85% of the US dairy industry and supported the bill when it was introduced earlier this year, so you might be surprised to learn that support for the Dairy PRIDE act has now soured in favor of a new resolution: CEO Michael Dykes stated that this matter of labeling “is probably an issue that needs to be resolved in the marketplace,” adding that though this has been a question for some time, neither the FDA nor courts have found the labels to be misleading to consumers. And in a marketplace where non-dairy milk sales are outpacing dairy, consumers seem to know what they want! Click to read more, and keep sharing our petition to pour pressure on Big Dairy to indeed fix this issue in the marketplace by labeling milk from cows as “cow milk!”
