BHOPAL GAS DISASTER

BHOPAL GAS DISASTER

The Issue

In the midnight of the 3rd December of 1984, Omvati, Leela, Hazira, and the other half million of neighbours of the city area of Bhopal, wake up suddenly in middle of a cloud of rare gas, that make him difficulties to breath and makes pain in the lungs and eyes. They don't know in the really near chemical plant, one of the tanks containing dangerous methyl isocyanate gas has been leaked 32 tons of this product to the air, due to the poor conditions of the factory. In few minutes, the streets of the city begin a complete riot of people running away the city, while they're inhaling the fatal gas that will kill up to 20.000 people in the first hours after the accident. 25 years later, the water and the land are still pollute, up to 200.000 people are suffering the physical consequences of the leak, the 2nd generation of childrens are growing handicapped with serious physical problems and defects. Also, the government of India still looking to Bhopal disaster as a minor affair, without giving properly help to the affected families. And the company owner of the plant, Dow Chemical (former Union Carbide) still avoiding take direct responsibility in giving help to the town. These are the stories of some of the survivors of this catastrophe, how they can live in the gassed city quarter of century after the tragedy.
