Bharat Ratna for Ghantasala – Signature Campaign

Dear Respected President of India and Respected Prime Minster of India,

On the Birth Centenary of Padma Shri Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao garu, we request the Government of India to recognize him with Bharat Ratna posthumously for his tremendous contributions in the field of Music of India. His rendering of the Bhagavad-Gita that epitomized his divine voice will forever be one of the most listened to recordings in India. His contributions as music director and singer in several Indian languages - Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Tulu - are immense in a career spanning for more than 25 years.

Sri Ghantasala garu sang more than 10,000 songs and directed music for 110 films.  Such a combination of being a singer and music director, both in large numbers, is unparalleled by any musician in India.  

The Indian government recognized him with a Padma Shri in 1970 and a postage stamp was released in his honor in 2003.
