Resignation of Governor of Maharashtra Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari

The Issue

On 2nd June 2020, the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote a letter to the CM of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray stating that it is not in the best interest of students to cancel the final year examination. With this letter, the Governor has shown that he does not care about the students of Maharashtra and their future because keeping the final year examinations will be risking the lives of 8 lakh students and their families, all while our governor sits under heavy protection at the Raj Bhavan.

No one is sure about when the threat of COVID-19 will be lifted from our heads and delaying the exams would also cause a lot of problems in the student's lives since a lot of students are set to start their higher education in Fall 2020 through online medium and they have already paid some amount of non-refundable fees to the Universities they will be attending, also, these universities ask for a degree certificate which will be delayed by the delay of exams. Furthermore, keeping exams at a later date will also delay the joining of companies by the students who have taken up a job after graduation since they will only be able to join after they have their degree certificate.

Mt. Uddhav Thackeray already announced the cancellation of exams and rewarding SGPA on basis of  aggregate on 31st May 2020, anyone who is not satisfied with their SGPA can also take the examinations after the lockdown ends, and this was an extremely fair solution in the public's interest. However, the Governor, in this time of peril, wants to put the student's lives and futures at risk. All of this looks like a cheap political move due to the Governor and CM of Maharashtra belonging to different political parties. The Chief Minister and Minister of Higher and Technical Education had asked our opinion in this matter before taking this decision, they also discussed these matters with the VCs of all the Maharashtrian Universities. The Governor, however, is trying to "decide our future" without asking the main stakeholders (us) about our opinion. I have talked with 2 universities for higher education in the US and both of them have agreed to let the students get admitted on aggregate marks awarded for their final year examination. I am very sure that all the other companies and universities will follow suit because even they understand the risk to the student's lives during this PANDEMIC. I also urge all of you to sign this petition to urge such an insensitive and corrupt Governor to resign from his post and I ask you to post proofs here that the universities and companies you will be joining have no objection to your final year exams being cancelled.
