Save our schools

Save our schools
The Issue
To whom it may concern,
We are writing this letter to express our extreme displeasure in turning our K-8 schools into 3 elementary schools and 1 middle school, which appears to be the dominant frontrunner of reconfiguration. At the PTA council meeting today, Superintendent Michael Bregy said that the presentation of the Future Focused Schools Team's Findings may be presented in January, and the School Board's vote could happen in January. Looking at the School Board's calendar, this means that the presentation may occur on January 16th and the vote may occur on January 30th, giving the public only 14 days to review findings and develop opinions.
He also said that the reconfiguration can happen as early as this August. We have listed our concerns below:
1. We understand that a committee was formed (Future Focused Schools team) that have met to discuss this issue. None of these committee members have asked the school community about our input. No surveys have gone out to hear our voices. How can a vote be done on something so important without the school community giving their opinion?
2. Many of the families in Beverly Hills have moved to this district (with great financial difficulty) for the kids to be able to attend a K-8 school district. Many families do not want their children to have to change schools for middle school when friendships and community has already been formed.
Our board members were elected to represent our voices. Please see the petition below for all the voices that oppose this move.
