To reduce the amount of abandoned equines

To reduce the amount of abandoned equines
The Issue
In order to reduce the amount of abandoned horses, we see every day in the equine world something has to be done. Our campaign proposes that clinics are set up at approved yards with the full support of BEVA in order for subsidised castrations to take place. The reason that we feel this is necessary is because 90% of abandoned horses are stallions or colts, this is because they are worthless. We feel the reason that these horses are abandoned is because castration fees are extremely high and worth more than the horses value. Once the horses are gelded they can be put up for adoption or sale with the approved yard in order to recuperate their expensive. By castrating these horses we give them a worth, these means that if people have an option to give them away rather than dump them then the abandonment rate will drop. Not only does this benefit the public, it also benefits the public services and the government who plough lots of time and money into this issue currently.
