Over the last several years Route 522 in Powhatan Va has become a major thoroughfare connecting route 6 in Goochland to route 60 in Powhatan. It’s a heavy residential area as well with an active church and a busy cafe all within 1/4 mile from each other. I have contacted VDot and Powhatan County Admins several times over the last several years about the excessive speeds and a blind hill where 2 accidents have happened in the last year along this section of road and they have told me there is nothing they will do

Yesterday 10/31/21 there was an accident involving a truck heading Northbound that swerved to miss a car turning into their residence and they hit a tree. Both people involved had to be medflown to the hospital with serious injuries.

Almost to the year on 10/20/20 I was in the northbound lane stopped to turn into my residence causing a 3 car fender bender because of speed and a blind hill.

I would like to petition that the county and Vdot reduce the speed between the Cafe at Maidens and Old River Trail from 55 to 35. If possible I would like the see the rest of 522 lowered to 45 as well. I would also like to try to have a No through truck policy for 522. Doesn’t hurt to try. There is talks of a dump coming to the Powhatan/Cumberland county line and this will make the volume of trucks higher and more dangerous.

I am not doing this to make peoples lives harder because they have to slow down. I am doing this because people live on this road and it’s very unsafe.

After you sign please feel free to contact VDot and the county at the following email addresses to voice your concerns

rebecca.worley@vdot.virginia.gov

bschardein@powhatanva.gov

Thank you
