Allowing teachers to be armed would allow immediate ability to respond to active shooters.  This would allow people to volunteer to undergo basic training to help in active-shooter situations.  It would allow options other than hiding under desks while heavily armed people, who have nothing to fear, run through schools shooting people - possibly while police are waiting outside.
