Best Western: Ditch Cruel Cage Eggs

Best Western: Ditch Cruel Cage Eggs

Best Western prides itself on providing value to its customers. But at what cost? Around the world, Best Western is serving its hotel guests eggs which are produced by hens that are forced to spend the majority of their lives inside cages.
Millions of hens used for egg production throughout Best Western’s global supply chain suffer in cruel and cramped conditions. Caged systems are so small and overcrowded, hens living within them are unable to perform many of their most natural behaviours.
Unable to fully stretch her wings, scratch the earth or move around freely, life for a caged hen is bleak.
Inside these cages, hens can suffer from severe feather loss and can become injured and caught in the metal caging. It’s common practice for hens to have the ends of their sensitive beaks trimmed to prevent frustrated birds from pecking and injuring their cage mates. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by the other hens trapped with them.
Hundreds of companies around the world are ditching cages. Global commitments to go cage-free are being made by some of the largest companies in the world, including Marriott International, Accor Hotels, InterContinental Hotels, Unilever, Nestlé, Sodexo, Mondelez, and Compass Group. Major commitments recently produced here in New Zealand include leading foodservice groups Bidfood NZ and Service Foods.
Best Western has a tagline: “Best Western for a Better World”. It claims that “Best Western takes care of countless guests every day. It's that same spirit of caring that drives [it] to support numerous charitable efforts around the world.” But Best Western has fallen behind on animal welfare and millions of hens suffer as a result. It has the power to make our world a better, kinder place for animals. It’s time for Best Western to extend its spirit of caring to the animals in its supply chain and commit to going 100% cage-free globally.
Please sign this petition to tell Best Western that you won’t be staying at any of its hotels until it stops supporting this cruel animal abuse.
