Have you ever heard of tail-docking and ear cropping? It was probably a small term you heard maybe from a friend or a stranger who was out with his/her dog. What you should know that it is cruel and unnecessary procedures that is done on dogs. Ear-cropping sounds just like it is. Dogs pinnae, ear tissue, is partially removed, being surgically cut off. This creates a upright pointy ear which owners think looks great on dogs. They also believe that it will lessen the amount of ear infections. It doesn't. Research shows that 80% of dogs will not get ear infections. Those dogs who do are either cocker spaniels and poodles but you don't see their ears getting cropped. AS for tail-docking, this is done shortly after birth. A dog's tail is cut off without any anesthesia. They normally forget about the pain as it heals but doing this can cause great damage to the dogs nerves and communication skills. Dogs can even form neuromas or nerve tumors which can cause them pain and suffering. They can become vicious if someone were to touch the nerve tumor. Think of a Doberman Pinscher, have you ever saw what they actually look like and not what society paints them to be? Exactly. These poor dogs get their ears cropped for cosmetic purposes.
