Keep Meat off the Menu!

The Issue

St Christopher School has been vegetarian since 1915, according to the desire of its founders to "make sure members of any faith could sit and eat together". This sentiment embodies respect for others, kinmanship and compassion, all values that St Christopher School still prides itself on maintaining.

So why is St Chris prepared to dismiss those values to introduce meat at meal times? The evils of the meat industry are being revealed every day: animal abuse within slaughterhouses is rife; greenhouse gases (a considerable amount from the meat industry) are devastating our planet; people are suffering and dying from diseases linked to poor diets (meat especially).

This doesn't sound like an industry that believes respect, kinmanship and compassion are important. Why, in an era in which  more and more people are realising the enormous benefits of a plant-based diet, is St Christopher School proposing to put meat on the menu for the first time in a hundred years?

My educated guess is that the school's governors are willing to sacrifice values for money - they want to attract the higher paying boarders so are offering them a meat meal in the evenings.

The governors are making a decison on this TOMORROW 21ST JUNE and I need your help! Please sign this petition to tell my old school that integrity comes before profit - Keep Meat off the Menu!
