Lower Elected Officials Salary to Average U.S. Income

Lower Elected Officials Salary to Average U.S. Income
The Issue
IT IS ABSURD ELECTED OFFICIALS MAKE 5.5 TIMES MORE THAN THE AVERAGE CITIZEN
What You Need To Know:
- Average Annual Personal Income: $36,000
- President Income: $400,000 (12.5x the average American)
- Vice President: $230,700 (6.4x)
- Members of House and Senate: $174,000 - $223,500 (4.8x - 6.2x)
- Supreme Court Justices: $260,000 (7.3x)
- Governors: $70,000 - $201,680 (2x - 5.6x)
This is just their annual salary! Don't forget about the millions they're paid from corporations!
What This Petition Will Do
Lowering elected officials salaries to the average personal income is the ONLY WAY to incentivize politicians to tackle the poverty and income inequality crisis. This is because as the personal income of Americans grows, so will their own personal income.
If elected officials were actually doing their job, then we would not have 43.5 MILLION Americans living below the poverty threshold as of December 2, 2020. That is almost 1 out of every 7 Americans, 13.1%, in poverty while all government officials, 100%, live well above the poverty line which is a mere $12,880.
They will NEVER address the income inequality this country is suffering from unless they know what it's like to be the average citizen. No more can we allow them to live like kings while the American people suffer like peasants.
Remember WE PAY THEM! It's our tax dollars that fund their excursions to Cancun while people freeze and starve in their powerless homes; I'm looking at you Senator Cruz.
On top of an ever increasing six figure salary, elected officials have the best health care and astronomical pension plans setting them for life while the people they "serve" struggle to get by.
The money saved by the salary cuts can then be used to improve communities and people in them.
Enough is enough!
