I'm the creator and moderator of the Reddit community The Flying Circus Orchestra a safe space for educators and students who are victims of a music education system that supports and donates to groups like Drum Corps International and Bands of America; and does not hold educators accountable for when they allow staff or directors to sexually assault, harass, discriminate, neglect, and abuse students. We want to call out these groups for misleading marketing in rural and low-income schools and communities as an educational non-profit which they profit off of in competitions and festivals by exploiting students and having them live in an environment that would be considered human rights abuse by the European Union. Marching Bands and Corps should have never been a sport; because then you lose the humanity of the art form and become a tool for winning trophies and money. Many young people who join these groups lose their money for auditions and tour fees so expensive they can never afford college. If music educators truly care about the well being of their students then they should boycott DCI, BOA, DCA, YEA, and WGI and hold them accountable under the law of the land which should ban marketing in schools.
