Call for Marta's immediate release from Belarusian prison and safe return to her family.
The Issue
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT DETAINED IN BELARUSIAN PRISON
Marta Shcharbakova (current Bennington student, Global Citizen Year ‘19, United World College ‘18,) is a Belarusian student studying in the Untied States. She was arrested for peacefully protesting in Belarus on September 9th. She has been sentenced to 8 days in Akrescina prison, which is known for its egregious torture of prisoners.
We are calling for Marta's immediate release and safe return to her family.
Marta is an incredible young woman fighting for democracy in her home country. A coalition of Marta's colleagues and Bennington students are currently communicating with major new networks including NBC, as well as legislators, and we hope that mounting political pressure will prove beneficial in her release.
Belarusians have never been closer on their way to democracy. We ask the global community to support the fight against injustice happening in Belarus. Each of you can help:

* Write to your elected officials to condemn the rigged vote and the use of violence against peaceful protesters

* Take to the streets. All major global cities have a Belarusian diaspora, they gather daily and they would really appreciate the support
* Spread the word and stay actively informed
