A Sociological Experiment to Change the World
The Issue
For those of us who are watching this presidential race from our place in this world and finding it a rather disheartening I offer you a potential solution. This is a potential solution in many ways. For starters, there’s no guarantee that even if we do what I am proposing that what we are hoping to attain will be achieved. I am not even saying that we have a great chance of winning this thing. But I simply refuse to give up.
It’s easy to roll over and take one for the team, to shut our ears and eyes to the displeasure of our political system, hoping that for once there’s going to be someone who will stand up for us and help us achieve what would best help all our nation’s people and not just a select, elite few percent, at best. Out of sight and therefore out of mind; for the most part. Unless you’re a politician by profession it’s unlikely that you’re going to find yourself thinking about politics on a daily basis or even weekly or less once election season has passed us by.
Recently, I had dared to hope that fairness would be attained and we would balance out our priorities to reflect what is actually important to us: like the health of our loved ones and ourselves, the safety of the men and women serving in our nation’s militaries and our desperate need as a society to have our people back here, where they belong, not fighting an potentially unending war with often very questionable, suspect and selfish intentions.
I dared to hope that I could raise my children without fear that one day they would sleep on the streets as I had long ago. I thought that maybe, if I end up getting cancer, will I be able to get help or will I die at an age that is less than half my life expectancy, like my mother did? What happens if one of my children gets cancer? Will a cop having a bad day get a bit too heavy handed and accidentally kills me or one of my children, or perhaps my husband for trying to defend me from this potential threat? Will I be old and grey by the time I am able to pay off my student loans? Will my children have beaches to visit when they are adults or will it all be swallowed by the rising seas? By the time my children are of child bearing age themselves, will polar bears already be extinct? Whales? Tigers?
Anyone with an even partially rational mind that’s been paying attention to this election charade knows darn well that both Clinton and Trump are rotten to the core and one is only lesser by a tiny margin and that’s because she’s mentally stable enough not to go bomb any nation that looks sideways at her, but that’s about all the credit I’m giving her at present.
“So now what” you ask? Well, remember that guy, what was his name? Oh yes, Bernie Sanders. Yeah, he had some really great plans to place into motion and showed compassion which is something I have not seen either of the other candidates in this 2016 election exhibit in any way.
But he dropped out and endorsed Hillary! Yes, he did indeed, but not by choice. He was railroaded by his own party and knowing that there was no way to stay in the race he had to turn our attention to Hillary because Trump will probably be our end and business as usual is far better than death by nuclear fallout.
This election season has been one of the most corrupt we’ve witnessed in a goodly number of years. Ballots have been tampered with and even ballot boxes stolen, one side says they’ve won before the polls are even taken and thanks to mainstream media being obviously in the “C” corner and alerting all of us to a future that’s not yet occurred we’ve all just been walking around in a haze of “How did this happen?!”
We have to do something. We have more than just voting for the slightly lesser evil or not voting at all, we can try something new. At this point it’s either give up, refuse to vote, and consequences of our inaction be damned. Or we can decide that our first choice is still the best one and if that’s what we want then we should be able to have it! This is a democracy! It’s our choice! That’s why we vote at all! Only twice in our election history has the electoral college overturned populace vote so the odds are clearly in our favor.
So instead of showing our displeasure for the available candidates by staying home or filling in Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny as next president of the United States I say we put in the name we wanted all along, (for those of you reading this that were/are/want to be feelin’ the Bern) and write in Bernie Sander’s name in the place where you feel it belongs and ignore those other bubbles.
Basically, what have we got to lose now? We’re already up crap creek and all we’re equipped with is someone with a moral fiber more akin to a bowl of jelly than to anything of real substance, an angry toupee and a bottle of pepper spray and we all know we’re just gonna end up taking that to the face later.
Why deal with this crap anymore? Do more than just complain. Make your voice heard and let your vote be that voice.
If you truly believe in what Bernie Sanders envisioned for our nation than please, sign this petition and vow to write in Bernie Sanders’ name into the spot for the position of President of the United States of America. You cannot accomplish something without any effort. We probably won’t get him into office, if we’re to be realistic, but at least we’ll get our point across. So let’s give it a good go and see where it takes us! Let’s make history again! Who’s with me!?!
