Save The Freshwater Avon River

Save The Freshwater Avon River
The Issue
The Avon River protects 3000 acres of farmland, supports a large employer and tourist attraction (Martock) and is a valley that many call home. The Avon River is key to our future. This fresh water resource provides food security, flood control, along with recreation and an amazing documented fresh water ecosystem. This fresh water resource is key to managing climate change that we have been experiencing now and will be experiencing in the future.
There are many federal and provincial biodiversity studies completed along the river that proves this is a thriving ecosystem. There is a way to preserve our fresh water with a modernized aboideau system. This option enhances fish passage, protects the land and community from rising sea levels and floods and maintains a rich fresh water ecosystem on the Avon side while also maintaining the world renowned salt water marsh on the bay of Fundy side. This salt water marsh grows more vegetation in one year than any other marsh internationally.
The fresh water preservation allows a human water supply, fire protection, irrigation and livestock watering supply and snow making abilities at the ski resort.
The Canadian government has the power to change our future with one uneducated, short sighted decision. If they decide to "open the gate" and let free tidal flow, an amazing fresh water ecosystem will be destroyed. Please sign the petition to save the fresh water Avon.
