On May 19, 2020 news broke that Ruby Rose would be leaving the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman in the CW series Batwoman. Many fans were left very upset and sadden with her departure from the series. On June 2, it was reported that the show will not recast Ruby Rose and will instead focus on a new character by the name of “Ryan Wilder.” Casting is currently on its way with Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan being eyed for the role. However many fans have been against the idea and have called for a simple recast. Executive Producer Greg Berlanti and Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries need to see this petition for them to realize that replacing the Kate Kane character with a new character would be a grave mistake, and it would only open a can of worms for the show. As it would throw away all the established storylines, character dynamics, and teases left behind at the end of the first season. Not only that but it would significantly impact the character’s involvement in the larger Arrowverse, particularly in crossovers. As she and Supergirl are supposed to be the World’s Finest and she’s an official member of the big superhero team teased at the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Currently the Batwoman show and the upcoming Superman & Lois show are the only shows involved in the upcoming crossover event. Also, the Kate Kane character is a very important LGBTQ character in the comics, and simply writing her off in favor of a new character, would be a slap in the face to many fans and the character herself. She has resonated with so many fans, including comic book fans, and is a stable of the Batman family. By signing this petition or sharing it on your social media with the hashtag #RecastKateKane would catch the attention of Ms. Dries, Mr. Berlanti, and President of The CW Television Network, Mark Pedowitz and hopefully change their mind on replacing Kate Kane with Ryan Wilder, and just keep her by simply recasting the character with a new actress.
