Fairview Forest is at risk of being destroyed to make place for new infrastructures. The natural space at risk serves as a home for many different animals and fauna and also serves as a sponge that helps retain some of the suns heat. Seeing how we are all dealing with the effects of climate change, we need to protect this green space as it will greatly aid in the road towards carbon neutrality and sustainability. Moreover, if we let businessmen destroy more of these spaces, we won’t have any natural forests left as they will all be subject to destruction in the name of profit.

This petition will serve as a step in the right direction as well as a precedent that will hopefully lead to the protection of many more spaces like this one. Sharing this petition is key to achieving our objective as it is with the help of the public that we will successfully protect our green spaces.

It is also important to note that most locals are against the project. The forest also serves as a noise blocker and wind blocker. This is important as the highway 40 as well as the currently under construction REM station are right across the housing that only has the forest as a buffer. The construction project did not ever take into account those who live nearby and would be most affected by this project.
