The neighborhood of Colina at Waterstone is a newer development within the city limits of Vallejo. According to various maps, however, the physical boundary of the Benicia Unified School district is inclusive of the newer KB Homes and certain streets of the Colina at Waterstone developments. Since our neighborhood is within the physical boundary of Benicia and technically equally distant to the assigned Vallejo District School, Annie Pennycook, as Joe Henderson (BUSD), this petition seeks to allow our neighborhood youth attend Benicia schools. 

Over recent years, lowered enrollment in Benicia schools can be attributed to aging families and many family’s decision to take their children out of district schools and homeschool. This is a potential opportunity for the Colina at Waterstone neighborhood to seek out a higher quality of education for our children. Vallejo Unified School District has been known to unfairly deny the outward inter-district transfers though school safety and academic performance are grave concerns.  If there is space for enrollment in the various Benicia schools, the Benicia School district should consider allowing the Colina at Waterstone (and KB Skyline neighborhood) to enroll in Benicia schools.
