Insult to Injury!
The City of Bradenton wants to bulldoze a historic nature preserve park for condos . They said they can do this and raise the density levels of the condos from 3 story to 5 stories IF THEY PUT PUBLIC ART IN!
SINCE WHEN IS PUBLIC ART aA BARGAINING CHIP FOR DESTRUCTION OF PUBLIC LANDS AND HISTORIC ENVIRONMENTAL NATURE PRESERVE!!!!!
Since when is public art for a private development a bargaining chip for the city of bradentons zoning violation, violation of our public zoning rights, violation of clean air act, violation of clean water act, violation of impact fees that are going to be set aside if there is public art, violation of city of bradentons comprehensive plan . Destruction of this habitat would cause sink hole and salt water intrusion. They want to relocate the park to a landfill polluted stretch of land on the river which has no trees and is mostly concrete. They will not have a new park to replace the old park for 5 years because they have to clean up the land. We as tax payers are left to clean up the mess that the City of Bradenton and the Hatfield Developers, Ron Allen, Ed Voglar, O'reo Farm Two Developers and ZNS Engineering have made . So now instead of paying tax dollars for one park we are paying for the same park twice! The public art won't be in the park for everyone to see. The park will be gated off from the public as Tim Polk (Director of Planning and Community Development) said a passive park. This because the land is polluted and has existing erosion sink holes. It is unsafe for public use!
The other public art will be behind a gated community only for that community. The public will never see it.
We want public art and we want public art in the current historic nature preserve where everyone can enjoy it!
Glazier Gates Park has been there for over 70 yrs. The area has been virtually untouched in over 100 yrs. This area is also home to the first black community dating 1821. It is the first white settlement south of tampa dating 1842. It is the foundation keystone to not only to Manatee County but to all of West Florida south of Tampa!
The developers current plan and policy is to also remove over 300 trees on the entire 26 acre site. It will be condos and parking lot. Scorched earth! You can look up the plan on line at the City Council, CityofBradenton.com. Good luck with it because the city has removed every bit of information from the public view and has ignored requests for the information .
Again , I ask you since when did public art set precedent for the destruction of 100 yr old historic environmental preserve covering almost 6 acres and 300 trees on the additional 20?
These people get free equipment too for the destruction of the trees and essentially killing us!
thanks miki, as you can see I am incensed over this insult not only to the historic and conservation aspects but the guise of public art for a private development that only they will get to enjoy.
