Glazier gates Historic Ecological Park is the last remaining public green space on Manatee Avenue. It is a gift from our founding father to the people of this community. Every week over a hundred children and over 50 families and over 50 individuals frequent this park. Playing, bike riding ,basketball, exercising, playing music, walking their dogs and bird watching- enjoying nature!
Every morning you can hear the hawks, osprey and whistling ducks and the abundant woodpeckers, some endangered. Endangered song birds call this home on their stop over from the northern migrations. Endangered bees and butterflies. Not to mention the many waterfowl, herons and loons calling this their year round home. And the the over 60 trees that create this home . There are many huge ancient majestic oaks that Create this beloved park that our founding fathers have set aside for the people of Bradenton. It is a tribute. The underlying aqua fir that supplies fresh water for the state of florida.
During season those numbers swell to the hundreds- people and wildlife! All year long this park is visited by families and children from all over the world. There were visitors from Armenia, Finland and England, this past week !
This park is a tourist destination!
What an extraordinary gift out founding fathers have given us, the people of Bradenton, Manatee, Florida, the Nation.
But there is a downside. This park has been neglected for years by the City of Bradenton. Broken fences, missing trash cans, rusted bbq grates, trash not being picked up for weeks, no bathroom facility, no doggy poo stations, no dog watering stations, no outdoor evening lighting increasing safety risks, no ada accessibility for the assisted care centers across the street, creating a life risk hazard for those individual wishing to visit the park.
Because the City of Bradenton has refused to use the funds given it by our tax payers dollars by three different funding reserves for park and recreation it has blighted the attendance of this park. Everyone and everything has suffered from the City of Bradenton's neglect and this cities lining of pockets. So now the City wants to give developers our Ecological Historical Preserve to make money on a park that we the people already have paid for! This is our park the peoples park, a gift from our founding fathers and we have already paid for it and continue to paying for it.
And it is not for sale!
