The Issue

The Uniting Church Belmont has proposed to close Alexander Thomson kinder in Belmont. This has come as a shock to the local community and would create a void that must be filled.

Alexander Thomson currently offers 126 student places as a sessional kinder and Belmont families are going to find it almost impossible to find local kindergarten places as other opportunities are already limited.

We are appealing to:

1. Geelong City Council to provide an alternative venue in the same pocket of Belmont
2 The Department of Education to step in and find a solution
3. Local councillors and MPs to listen to the community and our needs

The Uniting Church are planning on replacing the current sessional kinder with a long day care facility which will not meet the needs of the community. Sessional kindergartens offer fully funded places, and even with the government rebate, the cost of attending a kindergarten program through a day care service results in high fees. This will financially disadvantage families in the area and potentially provide a barrier for our most vulnerable children to access pre-school education.

There are only 3 sessional kindergartens in the Belmont area, and the closure of one almost makes it impossible for our kids to receive the education they deserve!

Every signature can help us present a united stand to ensure that there is adequate sessional kindergarten programs for Belmont families. Let us secure a promising future for our children and the entire Belmont community.

Stand with us. Please, sign this petition.
