Maintain Our McCormick Park

Maintain Our McCormick Park
The Issue
The City of Bellevue is planning to pave over our McCormick Park along the north side of NE 12th. They plan to cut down our old-growth pines, take out much of our grass, remove the unique, variegated rhododendrons, azaleas and many older shade trees. They will replace them with a 12 ft. concrete sidewalk and a 5 ft. buffer.
It is senseless to tear up the beautiful McCormick Park on the north side when we already have large sidewalks on the SOUTH side which, with minimal updating, could suffice to meet their requirements of a "pedestrian and biking path comfortable for all ages". The south side is already used by those going to the King County Library, Kidsquest Museum, area apartments, retirement homes, Ashwood Park, the Bellevue Transit Center and Downtown core.
PLEASE ask those listed below that they reconsider tearing up our park and move the large 12 foot concrete path to the south side or consider other options with community input.
McCormick is such a respite for all who use it daily. Let’s work together to save our park – it’s meandering trails we use to walk dogs, the mature greenery we sit among as a buffer from the city, its benches and tables where we enjoy the beautiful, older trees and springtime color.
In addition to signing, please email our city staff and Bellevue City Council. Ask that they reconsider paving over our park and move the path to the south side.
Email: council@bellevuewa.gov and the project team: Ron Kessack RKessack@bellevuewa.gov, Sara Haile SHaile@bellevuewa.gov and Christopher Masek CMasek@bellevuewa.gov
They are already at 60% planning so this is urgent that our voices be heard now.
