There's heartbreaking footage of a polar bear at Belgrade Zoo in obvious need of veterinary help, covered in his own faeces and barely able to move.

It's so saddening to see such a magnificent animal reduced to this, zoos owe a duty of care to the animals they hold in captivity and should house them in suitable surroundings which mimic their natural habitat. By the looks of his bleak concrete surroundings, which don't even come close to resembling what he would encounter if he was in the wild - this is clearly not the case and I wouldn't be remotely surprised that this has had a direct detrimental impact on his physical and mental welfare. Polar bears are such intelligent animals, and just to see him in his enclosure is terribly depressing - imagine what it's like to live in there. He's barely able to hold his own weigh and his boredom must be unbearable.

We can and need to act NOW as this bear's voice! Every day we don't this poor bear is confined to a life of ill-health and boredom. How can a zoo operate knowing what misery they are bringing to the lives of the animals in their so-called care?

I'm calling on Belgrade Zoo to relocate this polar bear and urge everyone that can to contact both the zoo and the Mayor of Belgrade Siniša Mali. Born Free Foundation have acknowledged this bear's plight and have recommended contacting political contacts to further this cause!! I hope that this will help instigate action that is so clearly desperately needed!! Why Born Free? They have previously visited Belgrade Zoo and have witnessed the conditions in which these animals are kept - their efforts towards relocating animals is world renowned. 

I urge people to contact Belgrade zoo and political contacts (all links below) referring to this global petition - this can't be ignored.
