When I started this petition, my goal was simple: raise community awareness and call for greater transparency around the proposed land use agreement between the landowner and the Langley City Council affecting Coles Road, after having a conversation and tour of the Coles Road Land with a community member who felt their voice and concerns were not being heard. 

That awareness has grown. 647 signatures is a great reach for this petition. 

Thanks to every one of you who signed and shared this petition, and to the dedicated work of the Whidbey Environmental Action Network (WEAN), more neighbors are informed, more questions are being asked, and the Langley City Council is hearing directly from the community it serves in increasing numbers. We have seen increased community engagement and a stronger call for transparency in how this agreement is considered.

I hope that how ever the 5 voting members vote on the requested removal of the  Annexation Agreement, (which opens up that sensitive environment to have hundreds of homes  built for affordable housing), are informed, guided by the highest ethics, and understand that their decision has lasting impacts. 

I hope that those who live closest to the proposed development have their concerns addressed and guaranteed. 

I hope that Habitat for Humanity are able to manage such a project, and that their mission is not being used by the land owner and their development consultant for financial gain. 

Only time will tell. 

I hope that everyone involved is coming from their highest self and that the outcome is truly beneficial for the community that both human, and non-human life call it home.
