Petition updateBefore It’s Paved — Save the Last Farmland and Nursery in ParamusParamus Thrives on Commerce — Now Let’s Preserve Our History

Paramus is one of the largest retail centers in the United States, generating an estimated $5–6 billion in retail sales every year from the malls and shopping corridors along Routes 4 and 17.

While New Jersey collects the 6.625% sales tax, Paramus benefits greatly through commercial property taxes and local revenue from those businesses.

Each year, about $180 million in property taxes flows through the Paramus tax system, supporting the borough, our schools, and Bergen County. With additional municipal revenue included, nearly $200 million moves through our local system annually.

In other words, Paramus already benefits tremendously from commercial development.

Preserving the last remaining farmland in our town would not harm our economy. Instead, it would protect open space, preserve local history, and create opportunities for parks, agricultural education programs, or historical interpretation tied to Revolutionary War routes through Bergen County.

A town that built its success on commerce can also choose to preserve the last piece of its heritage.

Please continue sharing the petition so we can protect what little history we still have left for future generations.
