The Issue

On a quiet day in Polaris Place, our community was struck by a tragic incident that has changed our lives forever. Beeny Mbo, a vibrant and beloved two-year-old, wandered from the safety of his home and was later found in a nearby pond. This heartbreaking loss is a reminder of the ever-present dangers that unfenced bodies of water pose to our children. No family should have to endure the pain of losing a child in such preventable circumstances.

Statistics indicate that drowning is among the leading causes of accidental deaths for children under five. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents highlights that toddlers are especially at risk, with even small amounts of water posing lethal dangers. In areas like Polaris Place, where ponds and small lakes accentuate the suburban charm, these peaceful features can become hazardous without proper safety measures in place.

We are calling for mandatory installation of fences around all bodies of water situated within residential areas to shield the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community from danger. Installing barriers, such as fencing with lockable gates, ensures that unsupervised children do not accidentally access these potentially deadly areas.

Local governments and councils must develop and enforce policies requiring property developers and landowners to incorporate these essential safety features whenever there is a nearby body of water. This action is a straightforward and effective preventive measure, proven to significantly reduce the risk of child drownings.

In supporting this petition, you are advocating for the safety of our children and urging lawmakers to take significant action to protect them. Let's honor Beeny's memory by ensuring we prevent further tragedies. Let's work together to make residential areas safe havens, not potential hazards.

Please sign this petition and help us demand the change that's necessary to prevent further tragedies in communities across the nation. Together, we can create a safer environment for our children, providing peace of mind for parents and caregivers alike.
