I am currently petitioning for the implementation of a zebra or similar crossing on Waveney Avenue, Brickhill, adjacent to Falcoln Avenue.

The roads in this area are extremely busy and fast moving, even with the 20mph restriction signs in place.

With the lower schools becoming Primary schools in the area this has increased the amount of children wishing and encouraged to be independent and walk home alone in preparation to attending upper school. These children are only 9-10 years upwards in age with very minimal road safety sense, easily distracted and at risk of injury or worse on this busy road.

At this particular area on Waveney Avenue there are 2 large primary schools that have children crossing from one side of the road to another in their journeys home. Previous years there has been a crossing patrol (lollypop person) assisting with this crossing however for several months now this position has remained vacant and although advertised the vacancy remains unfilled.

I feel that providing a safe crossing for our children and other members of the community  at this point in the road would be significantly beneficial and reduce the risk of serious injury.

I propose the implementation of a zebra style crossing would be a quick and simple solution and significantly reduce the risk of harm for all members of the community, particularly our young children who are less road aware.
