 — Let’s Create a Sunflower Field at the Old Ecusta Paper Mill

Petition Statement:  
We, the undersigned, respectfully propose transforming the former Ecusta Paper Mill property into a vibrant sunflower field and community green space for Brevard and Transylvania County.

For decades, the Ecusta Mill was part of our region’s history and economy. Now, as the property moves into a new chapter, we have an opportunity to create something uplifting, environmentally positive, and community-centered.

A sunflower field would:

🌻 Beautify the area with a welcoming, natural landscape  
🌻 Provide pollinator habitat for bees, butterflies, and wildlife  
🌻 Offer a peaceful public space for residents and visitors  
🌻 Support agritourism, local photography, festivals, and education  
🌻 Symbolize renewal, hope, and growth for our community  

Sunflowers are resilient, soil-supporting plants that can help restore land while creating a destination people feel proud of. This project could be temporary or permanent, but either way it would turn unused land into something inspiring.

We ask local leaders, property stakeholders, and community planners to explore the feasibility of establishing a sunflower planting initiative at the Ecusta site.

Together, we can turn a former industrial space into a symbol of beauty, healing, and community pride.
