In recent incidents, instead of addressing the root of the issue — the human-bear conflicts in Tahoe — the solution proposed by California Fish and Wildlife is extreme and irreversible. Removing these bears does not solve the broader issue of wildlife and human coexistence in the region; instead, we should focus on non-lethal methods such as hazing, public education, and, only when absolutely necessary, relocation.

Statistics from various wildlife organizations have shown that non-lethal solutions are effective. For instance, strategic hazing practices and educational programs have significantly reduced wildlife incidents in areas with similar challenges.

Allowing the killing of Hope and severing her bond with Bounce by placing her in captivity is both inhumane and unnecessary. These bears represent a larger dialogue on how we can peacefully and harmoniously coexist with wildlife while ensuring the safety and well-being of communities.
