Grades should be excused and not counted as for 3rd quarter

Grades should be excused and not counted as for 3rd quarter

The Issue

Third quarter grades should be exempted as the last three weeks of the quarter are critical in determining grades.

During the abrupt, initial BCPS closing (March 16-27), many students did not get the chance to prepare for online-learning. For example, but not limited to: many students may have broken/missing chargers, or broken/missing laptops. Not everyone has a desktop at home and libraries are closed. Also, not all students have an internet connection at home and may not have been able to take advantage of Comcast’s free wifi.

Aforementioned, the last three weeks of the quarter are critical in determining the grade. Many assignments such as major grades could greatly impact the overall grade. Students striving for a better grade in a class did not get the opportunity to improve their grades.

Leaving 3rd quarter grades as it is, is greatly unfair to the many BCPS students who care deeply about grades, and could potentially affect a student’s future education path.
