It aims to help people develop their skills and their ability to use their own resources and those of the community to resolve problems. Whereas, the Ministry of Children and Family Development expanded the educational qualifications accepted for child protection social workers to include a range of academic degrees including undergraduate degrees in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and theology, and
Whereas, the inclusion of the above academic degrees weakens the profession of social work within the Ministry and fails to ensure that child protection work is conducted by those with appropriate education, knowledge, skill, values, and ethics, and
Whereas, the Ministry failed to ensure that adequate consultation with stakeholders took place prior to the implementation of the expanded educational qualifications,
Therefore, the undersigned respectfully request that the Honourable Minister immediately rescind the order to expand educational qualifications for child protection social workers.
