Doctor Who Fans Say NO to Doctor Who Movie!

The Issue

Next year is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the TV show that started on BBC television on November 23rd, 1963. The rich legacy of the TV show has stood the test of time and next year is set to be the biggest celebration of Doctor Who ever seen. However, news emerged this week (14th November 2011) that BBC Worldwide have plans to make Doctor Who into a movie. Director David Yates talks about "making a radical transformation" and "starting from scratch". It is impossible to start Doctor Who from scratch without ignoring the rich history that the show has brought, possibly one of the most wide-ranging and in-depth mythos in all of television and media. Even Russell T Davies said it would be very difficult to start Doctor Who from scratch without compromising the show's past, which is why the 2005 reboot was a continuation of the Classic Series. And with the 50th anniversary fast approaching, now is possibly the worst time to consider "rebooting" Doctor Who. We already have a much-loved, commercially successful TV Show and a whole franchise built around it.
Thousands of fans and television audiences around the world enjoy Doctor Who just as it is. Doctor Who as it stands today isn't a dead franchise that needs rebooting and refreshing. We have spoken: David Yates, Jane Tranter and BBC Worldwide: we say NO! We don't want a movie that will potentially destroy the legacy and even dent the success of the current TV Show!
