Boxing is not a sport by any reasonable definition. The chicanery deciding which boxers are to be pitted together by the multiplicity of promoters for alternate titles is clearly profit-based and arbitrary, the violence is deplorable and unhealthy, the results are uninteresting. Boxing is a blood-sport in the same league as dog-fighting.

We call on the BBC to stop reporting these bouts and results under their Sports banner as a matter of principle. The BBC is a world leader in informing its viewers, listeners and readers and in this instance should, on moral grounds, react to the general public abhorrence and revulsion which boxing has engendered for decades.
