Support the media against racism

The Issue

The BBC has upheld a complaint against reporter Naga Munchetty after she criticised Donald Trump's racist comments that four women politicians of colour should "go back" to "places from which they came." We believe that racist ideology is not something that has two equal sides that should be given impartial consideration in debate.

We believe Naga Munchetty was right to call out Trump on his blatantly racist comments, and we ask the BBC to reconsider its decision to censure her. We do not want the BBC to become a supporter of, and apologist for racism. The BBC's idea that racist opinions should be treated impartially is abhorrent to us.

We want to live in a fair and equal society where bigotry is expected to be criticised by everyone, including politicians, the public and the media.
