Stop airing of same sex relationships to young children who do not understand
The Issue
The CBBC ‘Next step’ programme is a very popular TV show among pre teens and teens and it’s about young teens preparing for dancing competitions. Last week it aired two of the female characters kissing and this has been praised by many saying that the bbc has come a long way in dealing with LGBT. I certainly do not believe that the content of this is age appropriate as you have little children as young as 8 years watching these shows and would be confused by what they see. I am calling on Cheryl Taylor who is the head of content for children’s programmes to take into consideration the many parents who have voiced their opinion about this matter. Why can’t children be left to just being children why does a TV programme that is meant to be designed for children have to convey these images. Even if some children are struggling with these issues parents should be given the right to first discuss these issues at home. Young children do not understand what is meant to give consent to a relationship that is entangled with so many complex emotions surrounding their identities. Myself and countless parents do not support the BBC to air future episode of this series and calling for the producers to rewrite the content.
