——Campaign for saving Eastern Horizon, the only Chinese Community Programme in the BBC Radio Manchester！
In April 2000 a man stood up at the Race in the Media Awards in London and said，
“THE BBC NEEDS TO CHANGE DRAMATICALLY IF IT IS TO BE A SERIOUS PLAYER IN 21ST CENTURY BRITAIN”
His name was Greg Dyke, Former Director-General of the BBC.

BBC Radio Manchester近期宣布，将在10月6号之后全权终止Eastern Horizon（东方地平线）广播节目！这部目前唯一由英国官方播出的关于华语社会的广播节目，即将结束她35年的服务，告别全英华人社区和关注华语社会的朋友们。没有了东方地平线，就没有了日出的守望！
在此，简氏注册会计师事务所（J&P Accountants）呼吁所有华人社区的弟兄姊妹，勇敢发出我们的华语之声，闪耀出来自东方地平线的光辉。
BBC Radio Manchester has confirmed that it is cutting back its Chinese community radio programming. The final broadcast will be held on the 6th Oct 2018. The only Chinese community programme is to end her 35-year service and say farewell to all the Chinese Community and those who care about the Chinese Speaking Society. The hope of light will not shine any more from the place of the Rising Sun within Eastern Horizon.
Therefore, J&P Accountants would like to invite all brothers and sisters from the community to speak out bravely and show the little shining light of ourselves who are from the eastern horizon.
致力于“成为中英沟通渠道”的Eastern Horizon（东方地平线）栏目，在数位志同道合的华语志愿者的筹划下，于1983年12月15日正式设立并播出。本栏目经常播放中华传统民乐和当代华语流行乐，播报华语社会政治经济文化等时事新闻，积极推进华语社区的民生建设，并且协助当地政府和公职机关发布有关华人社区的通知。除此之外，栏目组还积极参与社区公益活动，为Children in Need等慈善机构募集基金。
Aiming to be "a communication channel between the Chinese community and the host community", Eastern Horizon was founded by a group of Chinese volunteers. The programme first broadcasted on 15 December 1983. The show was one of the first in the UK to link up with Chinese radio stations around the world to produce simulcast programme, which plays a range of Chinese music from Canto-Pop and Mandarin classics to Chinese Classical tunes and covers a range of community issues and promote events and activities for the community. Police have used the programme to broadcast appeals for information in Cantonese to the Chinese community. The programme team regularly works with other community group, organising and participate in many local fund-raising activities including Children in Need Parties.
从几位志愿者的筹划到数位职业广播员的专业制作；从最初的半个小时录制节目，到后来2个小时的全网直播；从线上的全话题或专栏广播节目到线下的社区建设活动……无论是规模还是社会影响力，在过去的35年里，Eastern Horizon（东方地平线）一直在完善和发展，为华人发出自己声音的同时也为社区不断地做着贡献。不幸的是，这个栏目后来被紧缩到一个小时，并且安排在子夜时间播出，很难让更多听众适时收听和受益。
From the establishment by several volunteers to the exquisite work by professional presenters, from a recorded 30-minute programme once a month to a 2-hour all channel radio show on every Sunday, and from all-topic program in the studio to the wholehearted supporting activities in the community, it can be seen that Eastern Horizon had been continuously improving and developing in the past 35 years, contributing to our society while speaking out the Chinese/Cantonese language. Unfortunately, the show was then cut short to just one hour, and broadcast in English in the early hours of the morning when it was difficult for listeners to tune in.
根据英国卫报的数据统计，仅仅在中国，每周接收BBC中文节目的听众就有大约48万，于此同时，收听BBC中英文栏目的总人数达到了85万人。虽然这是10年前的统计数据，但可以相信的是，在中英合作逐渐紧密，全球华语社会和经济蓬勃发展的大局下，这一数字肯定是有增无减的。然而就在此时，BBC却将 Eastern Horizon栏目从最初的黄金时段（每周日晚黄金时段7点到9点）推迟到晚上11点播出，然后又延迟到午夜12点播放，最终又做出了终止该华语社区节目的决定。这一系列举措，不仅让人费解，而且不免引发一定程度的愤慨。
According to the research of The Guardian, the radio audience figure in China for the BBC's services in Mandarin is 480,000 a week, while the combined audience for the BBC's English and Mandarin language in China is 850,000. Although the data was back dated to 2007, it can be believed that the figure will keep rising due to the close relationship between UK and China in recent years and the economic and social development of the Chinese speaking society.
曾经参与过东方地平线会计和税务专题节目的J&P accountants的总裁简女士Julia也倍感惋惜：“30多年的中文节目就这样无声无息了！英国再也没有东方地平线，没有中国了”，并呼吁在英的华人一定要“齐心，珍惜我们自己的地位和应有的权益，发出我们应有的声音！我们在英国的华人难道不应该做些什么吗？”
Ms. Julia，CEO of J&P accountants, who has participated in the program for Tax and Accounting Advice also feels very shocked, and sadly said “it has been more than 30 years, and then Eastern Horizon will go silently just like this!” She also cries out for both the Chinese and Local communities, “No one should steer our opinion. This is important because it enables us to have a voice of our own rights and identities. We, the Chinese Speaking Community, must stand firm and together to do something!”
是的，我们当然可以做些什么！每个人都有权力发出自己的呼声！也真的是希望我们华人能够借此机会“不鸣则已，一鸣惊人”，让世界知道，我们华语社会也一定要有自己的声音。
