This petition aims to demonstrate support for a revamped flagship tea-time news programme taking a Scottish view of Scottish, UK, European and World news.  This would replace the current broadcasts of the UK 6 o'clock News and Reporting Scotland bulletins.

The UK 6 o'clock News is dominated by English news stories (NHS in England, education in England, sport in England) with Scottish, Welsh and NI news stories presented in a 'news from elsewhere' fashion. BBC Reporting Scotland is a parochial programme seemingly obsessed with reporting murder trials and football. A worldwide and a UK perspective is entirely missing.

The new Scottish Six* bulletin would be produced, edited and controlled in Scotland - not from London. It should have funding in place to match its ambition.

This has nothing to do with the SNP wanting to control news broadcasts and turn the programme into a propaganda machine. The SNP will not be in power in Holyrood forever.

This has everything to do with showing that Scotland has an appetite for and an ability to report on newsworthy matters from a Scottish perspective.
