Hello all
We all make mistakes, and today, it was our turn
There has been an issue arisen regarding a private members only facebook group called Not My Doctor Who, which originated before the launch of our manifesto in January 2019, but which we were completley unaware of until 2 days ago.
On top of which, information got confused which led us to falsley believe the owner of this Not My Doctor Who private Facebook group had been getting threats because of the confusion over the name.
The issue was compounded by us being given incorrect information a You Tube channel and Twitter account run by this group also predated us: in fact they do not. Our campaign started 6 and 7 months before this groups You-Tube and Twitter started respectively. We regret there was not communication between us earlier. We did see the Twitter acount at some point in the autumn, but did not know it was connected to any group outside Twitter, we unsuccesfully attempted to contact it at the time, but as its start date was after ours, simply considered it a non issue from our POV. We were completley unaware there was a You-tube channel. Only now, now we are aware of the private Facebook group, does the correct chain of events become clear.
There has been some distress over the double use of the hashtag #NotMyDoctorWho, which has been compounded again by the confused information as to who had been recieving online threats, and this led to an article going out today that had fundamentally incorrect errors in it. All this material has been taken down and will be re-published when corrected for these mistakes which will significantly change its import and tone as regards this group.
As a result, and having reviewed all the facts carefully, we apologise profusely for falsly believing the owner of this channel needed cyberbullying support when he did not, and for our mistake, which we are correcting promptly here.
We are happy to confirm there is no connection or desire for connection between the two versions of Not My Doctor Who.
There have also been requests we change our campaign name over this confusion.
As we are now very close to ending our campaign and we will have no need to use the name or tag again after that happens, and as the only part of this Not My Doctor Who organisation that predates us is a small private Facebook group only visible to its own members with zero reach beyond and invisible to the internet at large, and as the request to do so was based on false claims, not by this channel but by two other Who-tubers, as to when the Public You-Tube and Twitter channels started, we decline to change our campaign name or remove any campaign content.
It simply doesnt make sense to us to do so: it wont correct any misaprehensions that have arisen at this point in the community at large and will shortly be a moot point when our campaign shuts.
However we confirm for anyone interested to know that there is no connection between us, and we do profusley apologise for the error.
