Simon Mayo's Drivetime Show used to be essential listening on the way home from work every evening. However, the chemistry that he and his team had built up over the last few years has been jettisoned, apparently for the sake of the political correctness of having a mainstream daytime female presenter. There's no question that Jo Whiley is an outstanding broadcaster. She used to present a tremendous evening show that offered a variety of interesting music and showcased many new acts. Jo is a serious player in music broadcasting. And there's the rub... The Drivetime show is essentially an entertainment program which helps to lighten the mood of the great unwashed on their way home (for a wash..). Crowbarring Jo into the show is like pairing John Peel with Steve Wright and expecting sparks to fly. The chemistry between Bobbie Pryor, wasted as a travel reporter, and Simon however is clear for all to see. And she's certainly popular with the public, as demonstrated by her "takeover slot" on Craig Charles' show recently. Furthermore, sports reporter Matt Williams was an essential part of the chemistry of the old show and contributed way beyond his official remit. What were the BBC thinking??! To remove him was crass stupidity beyond belief. He should be re-instated immediately. So come on Auntie, you can do better than that. It weren't broke, so why fix it?
