Have Baylor University reimburse/credit tuition and fees due to moving classes online.
The Issue
Due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, in person classes at Baylor University have been suspended for the remainder of the semester. Clubs have be canceled, residents halls shutdown, and students have been requested not to return to campus.
Many students pay or receive scholarships to attend such a great university with outstanding professors and classes. The recent move to a completely online platform has many students worried because online classes often do not translate well for students when compared to a traditional classroom environment. While the recent outbreak is out of Baylor University’s control, it is not the fault of students, who might I remind have been asked not to come back to campus. It is unfair for us to pay so much to merely receive online instructions and self teaching. Because of this many students believe that baylor should reimburse students for a percentage of their tuition and fees equal to the amount of the semester online classes are being used for teaching purposes. This is not limited to just tuition and fees, but other university expenses as well. Students who have purchased a parking pass and have been told to not return to campus, in other words not to use the service paid for, should be reimbursed for the duration of the semester from March 23, 2020 till the last day of finals.
We pay a very high tuition and are now unable to use many of the things we pay for as we have been asked not to return to campus.
Further more, many students families will be impacted financially due to the recent economic decline and layoffs. This reimbursement of tuition can help families now when they need it most or provide a cushion for those trying to keep their families safe.
