An Article by Lariat writer Emily Cousins recently revealed that Baylor University denies healthcare benefits to employees with same-sex partners. The direct health care benefits plan states dependants can only be added as "spouse[s] of opposite sex to whom you are lawfully married". Baylor continues to claim it is a Christian University that follows in the way of Christ. However, their policies continually deny this fact.

As an Alum, I am mortified at Baylor's decision to discriminate against those living their most authentic self. As a Christian, I am embarrassed at Baylor's decision to discriminate against those living their most authentic self. Jesus himself was a radical who preached love above all else. A Baylor class itself taught me that the bible condemning homosexuality was a widespread myth. Instead, it was condemning the practice of Pederasty in which wealthy men would train wealthy boys, which included sexual, pedophilic acts.

A few Bibles verses to support the fact that Baylor is going in opposition to the Bible with their stance are to follow:

Nothing can separate us from the love of God (Rom 8:38)

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (Psalm 139:113-114)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23)

Jesus often placed himself with those the religious establishment highly disapproved of, as Baylor is currently demonstrating.

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28)

Finally, and for this issues most powerfully:

"So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate" (Matthew 19:5)

Man creating laws against love is contrary to the teachings of Christ. Christ preached for love. Christ preached that only he who has not sinned might go throw the first stone. Instead, Baylor is trying to play God in direct contradiction to the Bible.

As an alum, I am mortified. I call on alum's to discontinue any donation to Baylor university until they accept all with love. This petition will be sent to Baylor University on 04/23. Please help us protect our LGBTQIA+ brothers, sisters, and gender, non-binary individuals.
