Since as early as 2006 scientists across the globe have noticed a rapid decline in the bee population and recognized the importance that the bee plays as a pollinator in our ecosystem. The decline in the bee population can be attributed to some more natural causes such as drought, pests, disease, and poor beekeeping. However, a significant cause of the population decline is because of the toxic pesticides that are being sold by companies like Bayer (one of five top-selling companies) as "crop-protection product". These companies are making 1/3 of their income by selling these highly hazardous products that are dangerous not only to our ecosystem but the human population as well.

Did you know that 70 of the top 100 human food crops are pollinated by bees? As one of the major pollinators, the Earth would face a devastating blow if the bee were to go extinct because the ecosystem would basically crumble. Without pollination of crops we would not be able to feed our livestock or ourselves. According to famed scientist Albert Einstein, "If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live." The bees are dying at an alarming rate and I think its time to do all we can to save them.
