BAY RIDGE — IT’S TIME TO TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT VISITATION
The Issue
WE CAN’T SIT BACK. WE NEED TO HAVE A VOICE. WE NEED TO REQUEST A TOWN HALL MEETING WITH THOSE WHO CAN. MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

For generations, the Visitation Monastery & Academy property has been a treasured part of Bay Ridge.
Its approximately 7.5 acres of historic buildings, green space, mature trees, pond, wildlife habitat and peaceful surroundings have helped define the character of our community.
The closing of Visitation Academy was already a heartbreaking loss for generations of students, families, educators and alumni.
Now the property has been sold—and we need to know what happens next.
Our community has serious concerns about:
• The future of the historic monastery and academy
• Landmark and historic-preservation status
• Potential zoning changes and future development
• The impact of excavation and construction on neighboring homes and foundations
• Whether our aging sewer and other infrastructure can support substantial additional development
• Loss of green space, trees, wildlife habitat and other natural features
• Traffic, parking, density and quality-of-life impacts
• The potential effect on surrounding property values and the character of Bay Ridge
Council Member Kayla Santosuosso has herself expressed concern about the lack of community involvement in the sale, describing it as having occurred “under the cloak of darkness.”
Now is the time for action—not simply discussion.
WE ARE CALLING FOR A PUBLIC BAY RIDGE TOWN HALL.
We are asking Community Board 10 and Council Member Kayla Santosuosso to convene a dedicated Town Hall about the future of the Visitation property.
And importantly, we are asking that the property’s new owner and development representatives be invited to attend, explain their intentions for the property, and answer questions directly from Bay Ridge residents.
We also want answers about the previous efforts to pursue landmark/historic preservation for Visitation and what has happened to that process.
We are not asking the City to undo a private sale.
We are asking for transparency, public participation and a seat at the table before irreversible decisions are made.
If you care about the future of Visitation and the future of Bay Ridge, please sign the petition and share it with your neighbors.
SIGN. SHARE. SPEAK.
