The installation of a supervised crossing on Victoria Street at St Ita's Primary School.

The installation of a supervised crossing on Victoria Street at St Ita's Primary School.
The issue
As the population of Drouin grows, so does the flow of traffic. During school drop-off and pick-up times, the traffic on Victoria Street, outside of St. Ita's Catholic Primary School, is very busy.
One of the biggest safety risks to students and members of the school community is caused by overtaking cars, that go past the cars waiting in the carline. If a student is waiting to cross the road, they do so from between parked cars. This means that they might not see the oncoming traffic until the last moment, nor will the motorists see the children as they wait to come out onto the road.
There would be many families who live over the Northern side of Victoria Street who would wish for their children to walk to school, but worry for their safety, knowing they will need to cross Victoria Street. Also, some families park across in Lawrence Rd due to ease of parking. This means that they must then navigate the dangers of crossing Victoria St and endanger themselves, along with their children, to get to and from school.
Students from nearby Drouin Primary School also cross at Victoria St, so members of that school community would also benefit from the increase to their safety that a supervised crossing will provide.
Communication with the Baw Baw Shire on this issue has been slow and tedious, but with the support of more voices from the school community, they might recognise how many of us are desperate for this safety measure to be put into place for us and our children.
