Hello everyone. I was due on Spirit FM at 7pm tonight as I have been for the last 2 and a bit years.
I'm not going to lie, I was going to find it difficult but I was going to remain professional and be upbeat as I usually am, just like the rest of the on-air team have been since we found out.
However, I got a call today telling me that my services were no longer required, so it seems that this petition has upset the management at Bauer.
This wasn't entirely unexpected given that they've forbidden any of the employees from speaking about it and I had decided to ignore this because I personally had nothing to lose.
And I did so because I wanted to tell everyone what was really going to happen if we didn't all stand up and fight for Spirit FM and the amazing team there.
So whilst I'm sad that my time at Spirit FM is over, I've made many friends and many fantastic memories that I will always remember.
I've loved radio since I was a lonely child, just moved to a new area and found a friendly voice on a local radio station that I could listen to and play along with the competitions whilst I did my homework.
That's what local radio is about to me and I don't want that to be lost to future generations. Local radio is essential and we need to fight to keep it.
On the plus side, the amazing people at JPIMedia Publishing who publish the Observer group of newspapers have joined in the fight to help save Spirit FM (please see the linked article) and I am so grateful to them for doing this.
You can now also find the Facebook group "Save Spirit FM" which we are using to organise other events like a virtual protest and writing to our local MPs asking them to get involved, amongst other things.
